NEW RETAIL CENTER IN MECHELEN - BELGIUM
The access road of a new retail center has been planned in Mechelen, Belgium, to let customers easily drive to the new shopping mall. Initially, the retaining wall for the ramp leading to the bridge abutment had been planned as a concrete L-retaining wall, but, thanks to the technical support of Maccaferri, the design has been changed in favour of 530 sqm MacRes System with 12. 000 lm of ParaWeb reinforcement. Due to the bad foundation soil characteristics, the contractor asked Maccaferri´s support also for the calculation and delivery of 1. 100 sqm of ParaLink 950 as basal reinforcement over piles. Smooth standard panels have been chosen.

MOTORWAY A10/171 ORLEANS
The motorway plan highlighted the continued increase in traffic on the A10 between the A19 and the A71. In this context, the development of the A10 motorway north of Orléans aimed in particular to improve traffic flow with the creation of new lanes and the adaptation of motorway junctions. As part of these developments, retaining structures in embankments reinforced with a concrete facing and mineral facing were necessary.

CONSTRUCTION OF BRUG VAN DEN AZIJN
De Vlaamse Waterweg (Flemish Waterway Authority) invested more than 15 million Euro in the construction of the new Burgemeester Eduard Waghemansbrug, better known as Brug van den Azijn. 12. 5 million were dedicated to the bridge construction while 2. 5 million for the widening of the N130 between the district of Merksem and Deurne. The project included bus lanes in both directions, a one-way cycle lane, and a pedestrian path. The abutments were designed to support a 123 m span arch bridge, approximately 16 m wide. The new bridge clearance was targeted to be 9. 1 m high, allowing the passage of ships with four layers of containers. The architects of the project designed an articulated façade for the bridge structures. Therefore, the reinforced soil walls and the true abutments were designed with a 75° inclination.
