Reinforced Soil Walls and Slope Reinforcement
Steeper slopes with geogrid reinforcement
Steeper reinforced soil slopes
Modifying a slope beyond the soil’s natural angle of friction can lead to instability, particularly when cutting slopes for new infrastructure or creating additional development space.
Reinforced soil slopes enable the construction of steeper, stable structures capable of supporting greater loads. Geogrids installed horizontally within the compacted soil mass provide tensile reinforcement through their low strain and effective interaction with the surrounding fill.
Their flexibility makes these solutions suitable for weak foundation soils and seismic areas, as they can accommodate differential settlement better than rigid alternatives. They can also maximise the reuse of site-won materials, reducing imported fill, truck movements, environmental impact and project costs.
Using MacSTARS, our engineers design reinforced soil walls and slopes combining geogrids with systems such as TerraMesh System, TerraMesh Green and TerraMesh Mineral. Different finishes are available, from vegetated slopes to mineral facings and MacWall segmental blockwork for a more formal architectural appearance. These solutions have been used for structures over 70 m high.
