Challenge

As part of the port’s modernisation and expansion to accommodate more fishing vessels, a mole measuring 450 m long by 16 m wide, with a draught of 8 to 10 m, was built.

Solution

To protect the quay toe against scour caused by boat propellers, Sogea Satom CI, EMCC CI and Maccaferri proposed a Reno Mattress solution. This solution can be installed in situ; however, since this was not possible for this project, the mattresses were pre-filled on a platform and then placed in the water using a lifting beam.

To ensure continuity of the scour protection system, the mattresses were equipped with double-twisted wire mesh overlaps and a geotextile.

The Maccaferri advantages:

  • Layout design of the solution by our technical department and preparation of a technical file

  • NF Acier-certified double-twisted wire mesh

  • Structures protected by an organic coating, with an estimated service life of 120 years

  • Technical assistance during the start-up phase of mattress prefabrication
