Challenge

The company Werner Consult was designing a spillway for the Kamp River, located in the lower part of Austria. The initial design considered a 2m-height earth dam with erosion protection on the two side slopes. This slope protection was made of stones (Ø 30cm) and concrete.

Solution

Maccaferri proposed a cost-effective alternative solution with RENO mattresses®. Based on the different sections the mattresses had different lengths (3, 5, and 6m) but the same width (3m) and height (0.23m). The wire diameter was Ø 2.2-3.2mm with an additional polymer coating to protect it from abrasion and UV radiation. Considering the extent of the project and the disposition of the mattresses it was convenient to use rolls of DT-netting instead of single lids for each mattress. The installation has been carried out smoothly and fast.
